Back when it came out, I spent countless hours playing it. I can easily say it was my greatest video game experience. This tribute is something I had to do for myself and for others who feel the same way. This is Part I of "The Legendary Tale: Ocarina of Time"Here is the story overview of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time...The game opens as the fairy Navi awakens Link from a nightmare. Navi has been sent to bring Link to the guardian of his village, the Great Deku Tree, who is cursed and near death. Link breaks the curse, but cannot stop the tree from withering. The Deku Tree tells Link a "wicked man of the desert" has cursed him and seeks to conquer the land of Hyrule and that Link must stop him. He gives Link the spiritual stone of the forest, the Kokiri's Emerald, and sends him to Hyrule to speak with the princess of destiny, Zelda. He dies shortly after.At Hyrule Castle, Link meets Princess Zelda, who explains she has been having dreams about the future of Hyrule and foresaw Link's arrival. She believes Ganondorf, the Gerudo King of Thieves, is seeking the Triforce, a holy relic in the Sacred Realm that gives its holder god-like power. Zelda's description of Ganondorf matches that of the man who killed the Great Deku Tree. Zelda asks Link to obtain the three Spiritual Stones, one of which he already possessed, so that he might enter the Sacred Realm and claim the Triforce before Ganondorf reaches it. Link goes to Goron City, where he meets Darunia, the leader of the Goron race. After Link kills the boss of Dodongo's Cavern, Darunia gives him the Goron's Ruby, symbolizing brothership. Link next obtains the Zora's Sapphire from the Zora Princess, Ruto, after rescuing her from the belly of Lord Jabu-Jabu (a whale-like creature sacred to the Zoras).Link returns to the castle, where he sees Ganondorf pursuing Zelda on horseback. Spotting Link, Zelda throws the Ocarina of Time into the castle moat. Ganondorf appears soon after and blasts Link with Dark Magic, knocking him down. After Ganondorf rides off, Link retrieves the Ocarina from the castle moat. Zelda telepathically teaches Link the "Song of Time", which, combined with the Spiritual Stones, allows him to open the door that leads to the Sacred Realm. Through the door, Link finds the Master Sword, a magical sword forged to fight evil. As he pulls the Master Sword from its pedestal, Ganondorf appears, having followed Link into the Sacred Realm, and claims the Triforce.Seven years later, an older Link awakens in a distant room and is met by the elderly Rauru, the ancient Sage of Light, one of seven sages who protect the location of the Triforce. Rauru informs Link that his spirit was sealed for seven years until he was old enough to wield the Master Sword and defeat Ganondorf. Together, the seven sages can imprison Ganondorf in the Sacred Realm; unfortunately, the other six sages are unaware of their identities after Ganondorf transformed Hyrule into a land of darkness. Under Ganondorf's reign, Hyrule has rapidly fallen into decline and numerous disasters occur. Link returns to Hyrule and is met by the mysterious Sheik, who guides Link to rid five temples of Ganondorf's monsters and henchmen so the power of the temples can awaken the sages who will in turn help Link liberate Hyrule from Ganondorf's tyrannical rule.After awakening all five sages, Sheik is revealed to be Princess Zelda, and also reveals that she is the Sage of Time. She tells Link that Ganondorf's heart is unbalanced, so the Triforce split into three pieces, as predicted in an ancient prophecy. Ganondorf kept the Triforce of Power, while the other two chosen by destiny carry the remaining pieces: Zelda gained the Triforce of Wisdom and Link obtained the Triforce of Courage. After Zelda bestows Link with the magical Light Arrows, Ganondorf traps Zelda in a magical crystal-like case and transports her to his tower. After the remaining six sages help Link enter the tower, Link battles Ganondorf, and the seven sages use their combined power to trap Ganondorf in the Sacred Realm, who takes the Triforce of Power with him. Zelda then takes the Ocarina of Time from Link and uses it to send him back to his original time so that he can live out his childhood naturally. If you have a high enough influence over them, they may open up to you and follow your ways (be it light or dark).The game also dives deeper into Star Wars lore as it utilizes a much wider selection of alien species, weapons, and gear, as well as planets that we really haven't seen much of in the movies or games. Obsidian can also be commended for creating not one, but two of the most fearsome and awe-inspiring nemeses in the Star Wars universe. Discovering who these Sith Lords are is another of the games exciting mysteries.On the gameplay front, Obsidian stuck to the formula of the original game, but has built upon it with little additions and subtle tweaks. Of course, this still means that your supporting party will blindly run over a clearly visible mine, load times are just as extensive, some of the loose ends in the plot are not tied up (what's up with the HK droids?), and slowdown occurs when too many characters engage in battle. In short it still has its annoyances, yet the new material more than makes up for them. As you engage in conversation, you can now tap into your skills to add a new level of persuasion. For instance, if your character is knowledgeable to the subject matter, you may be prompted with an awareness option. Another interesting addition is the ability to break down items into components that you can turn around and use to create a wide variety of things.The missions that you'll undertake are just as varied, and the consequences to your actions can be just as cataclysmic. A raised level cap won't stunt your characters growth this time around, and the variety that stems from the new character interactions only heightens the reasons to play this game numerous times. Many of the visuals are a bit underwhelming, but the detail in the facial modeling is much more defined, and you won't see as many unintentional identical twins throughout your journey.It's almost impossible to deny the charms that emerge from this title's expertly crafted story and unbound freedom. Back when it came out, I spent countless hours playing it. I can easily say it was my greatest video game experience. This tribute is something I had to do for myself and for others who feel the same way. This is Part II of "The Legendary Tale: Ocarina of Time"Here is the story overview of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time...The game opens as the fairy Navi awakens Link from a nightmare. Navi has been sent to bring Link to the guardian of his village, the Great Deku Tree, who is cursed and near death. Link breaks the curse, but cannot stop the tree from withering. The Deku Tree tells Link a "wicked man of the desert" has cursed him and seeks to conquer the land of Hyrule and that Link must stop him. He gives Link the spiritual stone of the forest, the Kokiri's Emerald, and sends him to Hyrule to speak with the princess of destiny, Zelda. He dies shortly after.At Hyrule Castle, Link meets Princess Zelda, who explains she has been having dreams about the future of Hyrule and foresaw Link's arrival. She believes Ganondorf, the Gerudo King of Thieves, is seeking the Triforce, a holy relic in the Sacred Realm that gives its holder god-like power. Zelda's description of Ganondorf matches that of the man who killed the Great Deku Tree. Zelda asks Link to obtain the three Spiritual Stones, one of which he already possessed, so that he might enter the Sacred Realm and claim the Triforce before Ganondorf reaches it. Link goes to Goron City, where he meets Darunia, the leader of the Goron race. After Link kills the boss of Dodongo's Cavern, Darunia gives him the Goron's Ruby, symbolizing brothership. Link next obtains the Zora's Sapphire from the Zora Princess, Ruto, after rescuing her from the belly of Lord Jabu-Jabu (a whale-like creature sacred to the Zoras).Link returns to the castle, where he sees Ganondorf pursuing Zelda on horseback. Spotting Link, Zelda throws the Ocarina of Time into the castle moat. Ganondorf appears soon after and blasts Link with Dark Magic, knocking him down. After Ganondorf rides off, Link retrieves the Ocarina from the castle moat. Zelda telepathically teaches Link the "Song of Time", which, combined with the Spiritual Stones, allows him to open the door that leads to the Sacred Realm. Through the door, Link finds the Master Sword, a magical sword forged to fight evil. As he pulls the Master Sword from its pedestal, Ganondorf appears, having followed Link into the Sacred Realm, and claims the Triforce.Seven years later, an older Link awakens in a distant room and is met by the elderly Rauru, the ancient Sage of Light, one of seven sages who protect the location of the Triforce. Rauru informs Link that his spirit was sealed for seven years until he was old enough to wield the Master Sword and defeat Ganondorf. Together, the seven sages can imprison Ganondorf in the Sacred Realm; unfortunately, the other six sages are unaware of their identities after Ganondorf transformed Hyrule into a land of darkness. Under Ganondorf's reign, Hyrule has rapidly fallen into decline and numerous disasters occur. Link returns to Hyrule and is met by the mysterious Sheik, who guides Link to rid five temples of Ganondorf's monsters and henchmen so the power of the temples can awaken the sages who will in turn help Link liberate Hyrule from Ganondorf's tyrannical rule.After awakening all five sages, Sheik is revealed to be Princess Zelda, and also reveals that she is the Sage of Time. She tells Link that Ganondorf's heart is unbalanced, so the Triforce split into three pieces, as predicted in an ancient prophecy. Ganondorf kept the Triforce of Power, while the other two chosen by destiny carry the remaining pieces: Zelda gained the Triforce of Wisdom and Link obtained the Triforce of Courage. After Zelda bestows Link with the magical Light Arrows, Ganondorf traps Zelda in a magical crystal-like case and transports her to his tower. After the remaining six sages help Link enter the tower, Link battles Ganondorf, and the seven sages use their combined power to trap Ganondorf in the Sacred Realm, who takes the Triforce of Power with him. Zelda then takes the Ocarina of Time from Link and uses it to send him back to his original time so that he can live out his childhood naturally.
